10,000 Light-Year Binoculars

Author: Narumi Arata

Artist: Narumi Arata

The Plot: (Spoilers)

10,000 Light-Year Binoculars is a story of an extraterrestrial girl who received a pair of binoculars from her parents on her birthday. She put it to good use, since the binoculars can see planets that are thousands of light years away. Of all the planets she had seen;  she had taken notice of a human boy on earth, and became immediately smitten by him. She had observed him from afar with an affectionate gaze and set off to meet him. Though what she hadn’t accounted for was that the images she had seen were taken 10,000 years ago.

The Opinions:

Plot: I think it’s a bittersweet story of a young girl who has to face the reality of space time and how vast it is compared to her; especially when she travelled so far away from home on such a reckless ride to meet the human boy. My only issue with the story is unfortunately the ending; There’s such a strange plot hole that made me wonder, “How did the boy receive her letter?” For that, I truly don’t know how the letter travelled back in time. It still was a delightful one-shot, 9/10.

Art: I’m a fan of full colored stories, they’re such a delightful treat to look at; the style and coloring is very soft and it shows how beautiful the world around us can be. The pastel colors fit the girl very nicely, and I adored how the artist drew the earth and the the flora, it's so pretty! 10/10iu_245831_5255923.png

Gokurakugai Sanbandori no Ken

Author: Sano Yuto

Artist: Sano Yuto

  • As I read Gokurakugai Sanbandori no Ken, I found myself entirely immersed in the worldbuilding and their characters. The whole plot revolves around the livelihoods of two characters, Sister Tao and her assistant Alma, who work as troubleshooters of the Gokuraku District; I find that the two characters’ personalities are balanced well, despite their differences, which can be seen as Alma is consistently seen being beating by Tao. These differences in their characters are what creates such a dynamic duo. Likewise, with Sister Tao's stoic yet kindhearted persona, she helps discipline Alma who is rather impulsive, because of this, they both help benefit each other as they help a crying young girl named Nene, throughout the plot.

  • I find the art style to be extremely beautiful, which helps the characters feel so lifelike, you can already tell who they immediately are from how they dress and how they express themselves. Like the way Alma showed disgust, or when Nene is full of fear and anxiety, they just seem so alive in their own little world.

  • And the scenery feels so busy and full of life, no two characters are ever alike. Everything feel so natural to me, I can't help but feel like I'm actually there myself.

  • The fighting scenes are fluid and you can easily see what happens next; as the movements guide your eye from panel to panel.

  • After the fighting, the story finally reaches its resolution, and I felt the ending was very satisfying. I would share images but I'd rather not spoil for the sake of others. Though I'd highly recommend giving it a quick read, it's by far one of my favorite one-shots of all time. I would totally rate this 10/10.

I'm thinking about making reviews for manga/manhua/manhwa and other media that I read, idk, I hope no one minds that I voice my personal opinions here.
